Kilimanjaro — Machame Route, 7 Days

7 days · 6 nights From $2,450 per person sharing

Departing: Nairobi · Arusha · Moshi

The classic Machame route to Uhuru Peak (5,895 m) — seven days for better acclimatisation, a full licensed mountain crew, and all park and camping fees in one quote.

Sample package — hotels, itinerary and prices to be confirmed with the operator.

Day by day

Day 1 Machame gate to Machame camp

Transfer to the gate (from Moshi or via Arusha from Nairobi), registrations, then a 5–7 hour climb through montane rainforest to Machame camp (3,000 m).

Day 2 Machame to Shira camp

Leave the forest for moorland — a 4–6 hour day with your first wide views of Kibo, ending at Shira camp (3,840 m) on the Shira plateau.

Day 3 Shira to Barranco via Lava Tower

The key acclimatisation day — climb to Lava Tower (4,630 m) for lunch, then descend to Barranco camp (3,960 m) beneath the famous Barranco Wall.

Day 4 Barranco to Karanga

Scramble up the Barranco Wall — easier than it looks — then a shorter day across ridges and valleys to Karanga camp (4,035 m).

Day 5 Karanga to Barafu

A steady half-day climb to Barafu camp (4,673 m), the summit base. Rest, an early dinner, and prepare for the midnight start.

Day 6 Summit night — Uhuru Peak

Set off around midnight for the 6–8 hour climb via Stella Point to Uhuru Peak (5,895 m) for sunrise on the roof of Africa. Descend to Barafu for brunch, then down to Mweka camp for the night.

Day 7 Descend to the gate

A 3–4 hour walk through the rainforest to Mweka gate, summit certificates, then transfer back to Moshi or onward to Nairobi.
